King Charles III has congratulated US President Donald Trump and the American people on the 250th anniversary of American independence, describing the occasion as a “truly historic milestone” and expressing confidence that the longstanding partnership between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to grow stronger. In a message released to mark the Fourth of July celebrations, the British monarch said he and Queen Camilla were sending their “warmest congratulations” to the US, calling the anniversary “a moment of great celebration for Americans everywhere.”The King reflected on the evolution of ties between the two countries, saying the relationship had grown “from overcoming conflict to forging one of the closest and most productive alliances the world has seen.”“Through centuries of shared challenge and achievement, our nations have built a relationship founded on friendship, trust and a belief in liberty, the rule of law and the dignity of all people,” he said.Charles also highlighted the breadth of cooperation between the two allies, citing defence and security, trade and investment, science, research, education, culture and the arts as areas underpinning what he described as a “unique and far-reaching” partnership.Looking ahead, the monarch said he was encouraged by the enduring bond between the two countries and expressed confidence that “the connection between our peoples is one that I trust will only grow stronger with time.”The King also stressed the importance of protecting the natural world, saying both nations shared a responsibility to safeguard critical natural systems for future generations, linking environmental stewardship to long-term prosperity and national security. The message comes months after King Charles and Queen Camilla made a four-day state visit to the United States in April, held as part of the commemorations for America’s 250th anniversary.During the visit, the royal couple attended a White House reception hosted by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, addressed a joint session of Congress and participated in events across Washington and Virginia. The Fourth of July marks the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the United States declared its independence from British rule.Celebrations across the country include parades, concerts, fireworks and official events, with President Trump expected to lead commemorations in Washington, DC.
