Gurugram schools will conduct classes online from Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following heavy rainfall in the district on Monday. The decision has been taken amid concerns over waterlogging and traffic congestion at several locations across Gurugram.Authorities have advised schools and other institutions to facilitate work-from-home arrangements for their staff and adopt online teaching wherever possible to reduce movement on roads and ease pressure on the city’s traffic network.

Why are Gurugram schools shifting to online classes?

Gurugram witnessed heavy rainfall on August 24, raising concerns about waterlogging and disruption to traffic movement across the district. Several roads could remain affected, making daily commuting difficult for students, parents, teachers, and school staff. In view of the situation, schools have been advised to conduct classes online on August 25 instead of requiring students and staff to travel to their campuses. The move is primarily aimed at ensuring the safety and convenience of students while reducing unnecessary movement during a period when road conditions could remain challenging.

Schools advised to facilitate online learning

The advisory covers government and private schools and institutions in Gurugram. Schools are expected to communicate the arrangements to students and parents and make necessary preparations for online classes.Students should check messages, emails, or other official communication from their respective schools for details regarding class timings, links, and attendance requirements. The arrangements may vary from one school to another depending on its internal schedule and online teaching system.

    Work-from-home advisory for offices

Alongside schools, corporate offices and government and private institutions in Gurugram have also been advised to allow their employees and staff to work from home on August 25.The administration has taken the step to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate repair and maintenance work by civic agencies on roads and drainage infrastructure. With fewer commuters expected on the roads, civic authorities will have greater flexibility to carry out essential work in areas affected by waterlogging and rainfall-related disruption.

What should students and parents do?

Students and parents should follow the instructions issued by their respective schools regarding online classes on August 25.They should also avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to local weather and road conditions. Those who need to travel for essential reasons should plan their journeys carefully and allow additional time because of the possibility of congestion and waterlogging. The online-class arrangement is aimed at preventing students from being exposed to difficult commuting conditions while allowing academic activities to continue without a complete disruption to the school schedule. For now, students should treat August 25 as an online school day and follow the official communication issued by their respective institutions.
