A lot of unwanted commitments happen because we answer too quickly.
Someone asks, “Can you help me with this tomorrow?” and before you even think about your own schedule, you hear yourself saying, “Yeah, sure.”
Try replacing the instant yes with a pause.
You can say, “Let me check and get back to you,” or “I need some time to think about it.”
That small gap gives you a chance to ask yourself a very basic question: Do I actually want to do this, or am I afraid of disappointing them?
The answer can make a big difference.
