For a child who spent much of her early life in hospitals, a day in the sky meant far more than wearing a uniform. Trisha, a 12-year-old from Victoria, Australia, had long been fascinated by flight attendants and the work they do. After overcoming end-stage kidney failure and undergoing a transplant, she finally got the chance to experience that world herself. Her wish was brought to life through Make-A-Wish Australia, with Qantas helping turn the idea into a real cabin crew experience.

From hospital days to a day among the clouds

Trisha was diagnosed with serious kidney problems when she was just four. Her mother, Michelle, later donated a kidney to her daughter in 2024, according to 7NEWS Sydney. Trisha described spending much of her childhood in hospital and going through painful treatments. Her family also travelled by plane each year. Over time, she became increasingly curious about what happened behind the scenes and about the people looking after passengers during flights. That curiosity eventually became her Make-A-Wish dream.

Trisha gets her own Qantas uniform

The experience was designed to feel like genuine cabin crew work rather than simply a photo opportunity. Before boarding, Trisha took part in training and learned about emergency procedures and passenger service. She was paired with Qantas cabin crew member Ashlee Fischer, who became her buddy throughout the experience. Then came the moment she had been waiting for: Trisha put on a Qantas uniform and earned her wings.Make-A-Wish Australia says its wish experiences are designed around what each child wants to feel and experience, rather than following a standard template.

Her favourite part? The snack trolley

On September 15, Trisha flew on QF735 from Sydney to Adelaide and helped serve passengers. Her favourite part was surprisingly simple.“My favourite part is pushing the trolley with the snacks. It makes me feel very excited, and very happy,” she said. That detail captures what made the day special. For Trisha, the experience was not simply about flying. It was about being included, having a role and getting to do something she had imagined for years.

Her family watched her confidence shine

Trisha’s father, Gerald, said seeing his daughter serve passengers and speak with customers was a great experience for her.Her mother described her daughter as having gone through a “rough trot” and said watching her work at the Qantas training centre and then on the aircraft was amazing.Fischer also remembered Trisha’s enthusiasm during training.“When she came to the training centre she just jumped straight in,” Fischer said, adding that her confidence and joy stood out throughout the experience.

A wish can become more than one special day

The story also highlights why wish experiences can matter during difficult medical journeys. Make-A-Wish Australia says its wishes are intended to complement medical care by giving children something positive to anticipate and enjoy.Trisha’s day in the Qantas uniform cannot erase the years of treatment she has experienced. But it gave her something entirely different to remember: a plane aisle, a snack trolley, smiling passengers and the feeling of being part of a crew. For Trisha, one memorable adventure happened at 12, with a pair of wings and a dream she finally got to live.Disclaimer: This article is based on information reported by Qantas, Make-A-Wish Australia and news reports.
