Controversial influencer Clavicular has triggered fresh discussion online after making a striking claim about doxyPEP, an antibiotic-based prevention strategy used to reduce the risk of certain sexually transmitted infections. The looksmaxxing figure, whose real name is Braden Peters, said he uses doxycycline as part of his routine before making an unsupported claim about pneumonic plague in Russia. His comments have drawn attention because doxyPEP does not provide established protection against the disease. The claim also comes shortly after Peters reportedly faced serious criminal charges, adding another layer of scrutiny to his latest online activity.

Clavicular makes doxyPEP claim about plague in Russia

Peters discussed doxycycline in a post on X while describing it as part of his appearance-focused lifestyle. He linked the medication to STI prevention and then went further by suggesting it could stop the form of plague associated with a recent death at a research facility in Russia.“I take doxycycline daily as part of my looksmaxing [sic] routine because it lets me slay without getting STIs,” wrote Clavicular, whose real name is Braden Peters, in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Now, doxycycline is the rare drug to stop the plague in Russia.”He followed that statement with another reference to the looksmaxxing community:“Another mog for looksmaxers [sic],”The comments have raised concern because antibiotics cannot simply be treated as interchangeable medicines. DoxyPEP, or doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis, is used after sexual exposure to lower the risk of certain bacterial STIs. It is taken within a specific window after sex and is not a general-purpose shield against infectious diseases.

DoxyPEP does not protect against pneumonic plague

The distinction matters. DoxyPEP is associated with preventing chlamydia and syphilis in groups for whom the prevention strategy is recommended. Pneumonic plague is a different infection that requires appropriate medical treatment and urgent clinical care.According to the reference report, treatment for pneumonic plague generally involves antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, gentamicin or streptomycin, with treatment typically lasting 10 to 14 days. There is no established evidence that taking doxyPEP provides protection against pneumonic plague.Peters’ comments therefore should not be treated as medical advice. People should not take antibiotics daily or change an existing medication routine based on claims made online. The controversy arrives at a difficult point for Peters. He recently made headlines after being charged with rape and drugging a person for sex. Those allegations remain matters for the legal process, and a charge is not proof of guilt. For now, his latest comments have placed his use of doxyPEP back in the spotlight while also spreading a claim about plague prevention that lacks medical support.
