Veteran actor Deven Bhojani has explained why he prefers to keep politics out of his professional life, saying he wants to be judged on his acting rather than his political affiliations. In an interview recently, the actor spoke about his reluctance to comment on the country’s political climate, the creative insecurity he continues to experience after four decades in the industry, and his efforts to reinvent himself beyond television. Deven Bhojani on actors and politics: ‘I’m just an actor, let me act’
Known for his comic timing and memorable television performances, Deven Bhojani said he prefers to concentrate on his craft rather than comment on political developments. Addressing the question of actors speaking out on political issues or participating in protests, he admitted that he does not feel sufficiently informed to take a position on every issue.“I’m just an actor. Just let me act. I don’t want to get into politics. I don’t have the knowledge for it, and much of it is half-baked due to social media. I don’t know what is right or wrong, so who am I to judge? Because my main job is to act. So I want to keep myself limited to that,” he told Mid-Day.The actor explained that he would rather focus on his professional responsibilities than make public political statements without feeling fully informed. His comments reflect his preference for keeping his work separate from political affiliations and public posturing.
‘I’m very insecure’: Deven Bhojani on four decades in the industry
Despite working in the entertainment industry for around 40 years, Bhojani said he continues to experience insecurity about his career. He described himself as hungry for work and eager to keep exploring opportunities for as long as possible.“I consider myself to be very insecure, even though I’ve been working for the past 40 years. But still, I’m very hungry. I want to keep working till the end of my life,” he said.Bhojani also explained why he would prefer to be offered a role because he suits the character or story, rather than because of an association with a political party.“I could be without work or get more work because of my affiliation with a political party. However, I would rather get cast if I’m suitable for a character or story and not because of this, which is why we have secret voting. I’m not saying the ones who speak up are wrong, but I’d rather focus on my career,” he added.
Deven Bhojani on his role in Netflix’s ‘Reporting Live’
In Netflix’s ‘Reporting Live’, Bhojani steps into a different professional world, playing a dedicated video journalist working alongside Parineeti Chopra. The series explores the largely underrepresented subject of illegal sand mining, with the actor preparing extensively to make his portrayal convincing.Bhojani revealed that his preparation involved learning how to handle professional camera equipment and understanding the physical demands of working as a news cameraman. A senior camera professional helped him master the equipment, including how to hold it, dismantle it and move quickly while carrying it.“We did a lot of workshops before we started. A senior cameraperson trained me to hold the camera, dismantle, and run with equipment. I didn’t know how to ride a bike very well, which was crucial for a few scenes. I had a bit of fear too, but we trained for many days, and it helped,” he told the afore mentioned publication. The actor also had to work on his confidence while riding a motorbike, an essential skill for certain scenes. The workshops helped him become more comfortable with the technical and physical aspects of the role.
