How tough a job loss can be? Well enough to turn life upside down, especially when someone has just started building a career. Something similar happened to a 22-year-old IT professional, who shared his life struggle on his Reddit account. Finding another job has allegedly been made harder by the treatment he says he is receiving at home by his own parents. In a Reddit post that has drawn attention online, an anonymous user claimed that after losing his ₹95,000-a-month job, he was taunted by his parents and made to feel like a burden. From earning ₹95,000 a month to struggling to find a jobThe anonymous user, wrote,“Pata hai aaj kya hua. I 22 (M), graduated with a job in IT and got laid off after 6 months. Salary was good, about 95k as I’m from a T3 college.”The young man said he had graduated from a tier-three college and secured a job in the IT sector. His monthly salary was around ₹95,000, but was laid off just six months after starting work. As per his post, he had been without an income for two months. Now he was struggling to find another. He shared details of his financial difficulties and the emotional toll of being unemployed, saying he had turned to the online platform because he had nowhere else to share his pain.

But what made the situation painful, he claimed, was the change in his family’s behaviour after he was laid off.“Now I am not making a penny for 2 months, they’ve been treating me like I am a burden to them, went through taunts and name calling as ‘freeloader’ for the past month. Didn’t say a word, they took away my air cooler saying we are feeling hot, you can manage. Dragged my bike without petrol for about 3 km and still no money for petrol.”He alleged that his parents took away his air cooler, telling him they were feeling hot and that he could manage without it. Now that reads really sad.‘They took food from my plate’. Now this was one of the most distressing incidents he mentioned in the post. The 22-year-old claimed that his parents took food away from his plate and questioned his usefulness to the family.“The worst happened when they took food from my plate and said what’s your use, shayad galti hi kardi terko paida karke. I was looking for a job for a night guard duty where I can actually prepare for my interviews in the future. But it seems like luck turned it’s back on me.”He further claimed that he had not eaten anything for two days and that nobody at home had asked whether he wanted food.

“I haven’t eaten anything in the last 2 days and they don’t bother to ask if I want some food or not. Tried food delivery on a rental electric scooter but leaves me no time for interview prep. I didn’t really save any money as I purchased the bike from my own money on cash, no emi nothing.”He tried to find work without giving up on his IT career

Despite the setbacks, the young man said he was still looking for ways to support himself. He considered taking up a night-shift security guard job because he hoped it would allow him to continue preparing for opportunities in the IT sector during the day.He also tried food delivery using a rented electric scooter, but said the work left him with little time to prepare for job interviews. In a follow-up comment on Reddit, he explained that he had contributed towards household expenses, including groceries and bills, but had spent most of his salary on the bike.Reddit users offer support and share their personal experiencesThe post prompted several users to offer encouragement and suggestions. Some advised the young man to continue preparing for interviews and work towards financial independence. Others shared experiences of being laid off and facing criticism from family members. The lesson he wants other young earners to learn“Live your life for yourself and don’t make the same mistake I did,” he wrote, advising people to build savings before spending heavily on a dream bike or car.
