Salman Khan has often spoken about his reluctance to settle down, but there was a time when the actor was serious about getting married. His relationship with former actress Sangeeta Bijlani was one of his most talked-about romances, with the two dating for several years and even getting their wedding cards printed. However, their relationship ended before they could walk down the aisle.Over the years, Salman has been linked to several actresses, but his relationship with Sangeeta continues to intrigue fans. The actor, who rarely opens up about his personal life, spoke about his near-marriage during his appearance on Koffee With Karan in 2013.During the episode, host Karan Johar asked Salman about his plans to get married. The actor admitted that he was not looking for a partner and was not ready for a serious relationship. He also recalled how close he had come to getting married, revealing that the wedding cards had already been printed.“There was a time that I really wanted to get married, and then it just didn’t work out. I have always come so close. People have got cold feet. ‘Theek hai, boyfriend, isko zindagi bhar jhelna padega kya. With Sangeeta, even the cards were printed.”Salman and Sangeeta reportedly dated from 1986 to 1994, and their wedding was planned for May 27, 1994. However, reports at the time claimed that Sangeeta called off the wedding after discovering Salman’s alleged involvement with actress Somy Ali. Despite their relationship ending, the two have maintained a cordial bond over the years and continue to share a friendship.During the same conversation on Koffee With Karan, Karan asked Salman whether he had been ‘caught’, referring to the circumstances surrounding the wedding being called off. Salman initially appeared to acknowledge it, replying, ‘Yeah, kind of’. However, he soon backtracked and responded with a mix of denial and humour.“What? What are you talking about?” I don’t get caught often. I lie nowadays. I just deny the whole thing. I just lie. I also tell people that if you don’t want to get into a relationship with me, don’t. I am not ready for any kind of relationship, serious commitments, and all that stuff right now.”Sangeeta was among the first women romantically linked to Salman to attract significant media attention. The actress, who won the Miss India title in the 1980s, was frequently spotted with the actor during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Although their relationship did not lead to marriage, Sangeeta went on to marry former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin in 1996. The couple separated and later divorced in 2010.Years later, Sangeeta addressed the long-standing speculation surrounding her wedding plans with Salman when she appeared as a guest on *Indian Idol 15*. One of the contestants asked her whether reports of her planned wedding to the actor were true, specifically bringing up the claims that their wedding cards had been printed. Sangeeta’s brief response left everyone surprised.‘Jhoot toh nahi tha’, she said, acknowledging that the reports were not false. However, the actress chose not to elaborate further, leaving the details of their much-discussed relationship largely untouched.
