From gold mines to desert ruins; 5 real ghost towns across America that look frozen in time

Bodie is often known as America’s most famous ghost town. It used to be a thriving gold-mining settlement in California’s Sierra Nevada and in the late 1870s, the town was home to over 10,000 residents. It’s hard to believe but once it was a happy town brimming with hotels, churches and schools.

But as soon as the gold ran out, residents started to move out of Bodie. Today, it is a well preserved place and is known as Bodie State Historic Park. The buildings are exactly as they were left decades ago.

However, as per local legend, taking even a small souvenir from Bodie is believed to bring bad luck.
