Chrissy Metz, who is best known for her main role in the series ‘This Is Us,’ is finally opening up about her use of GLP-1, a popular weight loss medication. The actress recently shared her experience using the medication to control her cravings and better manage her health, noting she is feeling much better overall.
Chrissy Metz admits to using weight loss meds to control her cravings
The ‘This Is Us’ actress recently sat down for a conversation with PEOPLE, where she admitted that “I just wanted to take care of myself,” while revealing that she has been taking GLP-1 for some time now. During her interview, the actress revealed that a lot of health issues, including obesity, run in her family and that the medication seemed the right way to go for her at this age and point in her life.Commenting that she is “not getting any younger,” Metz added, “I felt like I’ve tried so many modalities, whether it was diets or therapy, and none of it really worked for me.” She also added more about her experience with the drug, sharing, “It’s been great! I’ve enjoyed the benefits that I didn’t think would come with it, because I was very sceptical. I was like, ‘I’m not taking this medication. I don’t want to do this. It’s not going to work for me.’ You know, all the things. But when I realised food noise was really a thing that consumed a lot of my headspace, I was like, “Oh.”Metz also shared that her relationship with food has been really bad for a very long time and focusing so much on what she consumes has become tiring over time. “I just vilified food for so long because I was taught that it was bad, and you shouldn’t eat this or that. And it’s been helping me be more mobile and have less joint pain and inflammation and run around onstage [Metz is currently in Broadway’s & Juliet] and just do things that would have been much more difficult several pounds and inches ago,” she mentioned.As to why she started taking the medication now, she added, “My thinking was, how can I better myself and put myself first, which has always been the bane of my existence because I’m a people pleaser? But I know that my blood work is already better, and I’m headed in the right direction of getting ahead of things that needed getting ahead of.”
Chrissy Metz is okay being judged for her use of GLP-1
During her interview, the actress finally admitted that she is okay with being judged over her use of the drug. “Listen, when it comes to me, everybody is judgy. It doesn’t matter what I do. Before, people were like ‘Why isn’t she on a GLP-1?’ and now they’re going to know I’m on it and be like, ‘Why is she on a GLP-1?’” she mentioned with a laugh.Adding more context, she shared that people do not know her or the hereditary issues that run in her family, and they do not know what it is like to live a life in her shoes. She commented, “My life is my life, and I have to do what’s best for me, and that includes not listening to the comments and just talking to people who are positive and kind. I can’t engage with something that doesn’t make me feel good.”Other than being on medication, Metz also shared that she has been incorporating many other changes in her life. This includes working with a professional trainer, being comfortable with her own body, and learning more about what she is capable of doing.
