Installing Step 1
Ensure the flue liner top is dry/clean. Install the sealing damper on the flue (high side faces prevailing wind). Verify the 4-inch spring hangs freely when the damper is closed. Connect the loose cable end to the fireplace opening below
Installing Step 2
Open the adhesive tube (with cap). Apply adhesive to the flue liner top and along the opening. Press the damper onto the flue liner. Allow 24 hours for full curing before using the fireplace
Installing Step 3
Work from roof down to indoor fireplace. Install the bracket inside: Use a 1/4-inch masonry drill bit to drill a 1-inch deep hole in the front firebrick (20 inches above firebox floor). Note: Repair loose bricks with refractory mortar first
Installing Step 4
Insert the nail anchor into the bracket’s top hole and hammer-secure it to the firebox wall. Thread the steel cable through the bracket until slight tension is felt—ensure the damper is closed
Installing Step 5
Slide the brass ear over the cable (0.5 inches above the bracket). Pull the cable down to close the damper, place the ear over the bracket. Check roof-side seal: Adjust the ear upward if loose (overtightening may open the damper). Trim excess cable
