Australia women’s cricket vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner has found herself at the centre of a major personal controversy after her estranged wife, Monica Wright, publicly accused her of infidelity and identified a teammate as the person involved in the alleged affair.In a series of Instagram posts, Wright claimed Gardner had cheated on her and shared a photograph of Australia opener Georgia Voll with the caption: “This is who my wife cheated on me with…”The posts came shortly after the Daily Mail reported that Gardner and Wright had separated following an acrimonious breakdown in their marriage.Sharing the Daily Mail report, Wright first suggested that reports of the split were “too vague” before naming Voll in a subsequent Instagram story. The post not only alleged infidelity but also appeared to reinforce reports that the separation had been far from amicable.Wright has also removed all photographs of Gardner from her Instagram account, including images from their wedding ceremony.Neither Gardner nor Voll has publicly responded to Wright’s allegations. Cricket Australia has also not commented on the claims.

Marriage reportedly unravelled months after wedding
Gardner and Wright married in April 2025 in a ceremony attended by several members of Australia’s women’s cricket team. According to the Daily Mail report, however, the relationship reportedly began to deteriorate within two months while Gardner was in India for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.The publication, citing a team source, reported that teammates sensed something was “off” during the tournament, particularly after Wright travelled to India to visit Gardner. The insider claimed the atmosphere around the couple appeared strained, although many initially attributed it to the pressures of the World Cup.After returning to Sydney, Gardner allegedly had a private conversation with Wright that effectively brought the marriage to an end. According to the report, Wright was left “shattered” after Gardner explained why things had changed during the India tour.The Daily Mail further reported that the split proved especially painful because the couple had reportedly been planning to start a family and had even scheduled an appointment at a fertility clinic before separating.Gardner is understood to have moved out of the home they shared later in the year, reportedly leaving only their wedding rings behind. Sources quoted by the publication claimed the separation sent shockwaves through Australia’s close-knit women’s team, with Wright having built strong friendships with several players over the previous five years.The Daily Mail also reported that Cricket Australia was aware of the marriage breakdown.
