    IIM graduate Nandini Sethi’s ₹1.31 lakh monthly expense breakdown in Mumbai has sparked a fresh debate online about the city’s rising cost of living.

    The question of how much it really costs to live in Mumbai is once again being discussed across social media. This time, the conversation began after a corporate employee shared her monthly expense sheet online, revealing that she spent more than ₹1.31 lakh in just one month while living alone in the city.The post quickly grabbed attention as it detailed where the money went, including rent, furniture, household help, groceries, and transportation. Many users began comparing the figures with their own monthly spending and discussing Mumbai’s high cost of living.

    Woman shares detailed monthly expense breakdown

    IIM graduate Nandini Sethi shared an Instagram video revealing that she spent ₹1,31,277 during June after moving into a new apartment in Mumbai.Along with the post, she wrote, “₹1,31,277 in a single month. How much are your monthly expenses?” She also added, “PS: This doesn’t even include any investments. Why do people like this city so much?”

    Rent, furniture, and household expenses added to the total

    Sethi said she had recently shifted to a new flat where the monthly rent was ₹31,000. As the apartment was unfurnished, she spent around ₹25,000 on furniture.Her expenses also included deep cleaning, AC installation, groceries, transportation, and payments for a cook and house help.After sharing the final figure, she asked, “Is it too much?” and said, “I am still wrapping my head around how expensive the city is.”

    The post received several comments from people sharing their experiences of living in Mumbai.One user wrote, “Math isn’t mathing because ₹1 lakh is the new ₹30k and ₹5 lakh is the new ₹1 lakh.”Another commented, “Welcome to Mumbai. Mumbai will teach you real MBA survival skills.”A third user said, “Go to your hometown and live peacefully rather than living in Mumbai, even if you can join a good company in your hometown.”Another person added, “She is the only influencer who always sticks to the facts. No exaggeration.”
