Elton John said goodbye. And then he came back. Three years after concluding his record-breaking 330-show Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, which grossed nearly 940 million dollars and ranked among the most commercially successful tours of all time, he has announced two final farewell performances in Mexico City on October 2 and 3, 2026. In a statement, he told fans, “Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart. I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour, which makes this return especially meaningful.” He also headlined Rock in Rio in September 2026, his only Brazilian performance, described by the festival’s founder as a historic moment. All of this while navigating a significant health challenge, having revealed in a 2025 interview with Variety that he lost vision in his right eye and has poor vision in his left, saying, “The last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything.” And through all of it, a line from his 2019 autobiography captures the only question that has ever actually mattered to him. Ultimate Classic RockThe quote of the day reads, “There’s really no point in asking what if? The only question worth asking is: what’s next?”

Meaning of the quote of the day by Elton John

Elton John wrote these words in his autobiography ‘Me,’ published in 2019, as part of a broader reflection on the improbability and turbulence of the life he had lived up to that point. The full passage reads: “You can send yourself crazy wondering. But it all happened, and here I am. There’s really no point in asking what if? The only question worth asking is: what’s next?” It is a statement of such radical forward-orientation that it almost reads as a refusal to grieve, until you understand the life it was written from. The “what if” is always available. For a man who spent years at the height of his powers struggling with addiction, who came close to losing everything more than once, who sat in the wreckage of relationships and career decisions that could have gone differently, the retrospective question of what might have been is always right there. It is always an option. And what Elton is saying, with the directness that has always been one of his most disarming qualities, is that he has chosen not to take it.

Elton John proves every ending can become a new beginning

The legendary performer continues to inspire fans by focusing on what comes next rather than looking back at missed possibilities.Image credit (Instagram)

This is not the same as denial or avoidance. It is the recognition that the past is fixed and the future is not. Wondering about the “what if” is an investment of attention and energy in something that cannot change, cannot grow, and cannot produce anything new. The “what’s next,” by contrast, is entirely open. It is the space where something can still happen. Where the next album can be written, the next stage can be stepped onto, the next chapter can begin. For someone who has been saying farewell and then finding one more reason to return, this philosophy is less a literary flourish and more a lived operating principle. Elton John does not linger. He moves forward. The question is always what is next, and the answer is always something.

Elton John’s early life: from Pinner to the piano

Reginald Kenneth Dwight was born on March 25, 1947, in Pinner, Middlesex, England, and showed an extraordinary gift for music from early childhood, according to IMDb. He taught himself to play the piano by ear at the age of three, and by seven he was playing classical pieces from memory. He won a junior scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music at eleven, spending Saturdays there while attending Pinner County Grammar School during the week. His home life was marked by a distant and demanding father and a mother whose emotional warmth he has described as a complicated thing to receive.

Elton John's philosophy is rooted in resilience and renewal

From global superstardom to personal challenges, Elton John says progress comes from focusing on the future instead of the past.Image credit (Instagram)

He began his professional career playing in pubs and clubs under the name Reggie Dwight before the partnership that would change everything. He answered an advertisement placed by Ray Williams at Liberty Records, who sent him a batch of lyrics written by a young poet named Bernie Taupin. The two never met initially, simply corresponding by post, and out of that unusual arrangement came one of the most extraordinary songwriting partnerships in the history of popular music.

Elton John’s career: the man who refused to stop

His debut album arrived in 1969, and by 1970 a celebrated performance at the Troubadour club in Los Angeles had launched him into American consciousness with an impact that has rarely been matched by any debut live performance. What followed was one of the most sustained commercial and creative peaks in the history of recorded music, with albums including ‘Tumbleweed Connection,’ ‘Madman Across the Water,’ ‘Honky Château,’ ‘Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player,’ ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,’ ‘Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy,’ and ‘Rock of the Westies’ arriving in rapid succession throughout the early and mid 1970s.He has won five Grammy Awards, a Tony Award, an Oscar, a Golden Globe, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998. He has sold over 300 million records worldwide, making him one of the bestselling music artists of all time. He is also the founder of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, which has raised over 600 million dollars since its establishment in 1992, according to the Foundation’s official records. His next album, he told Variety, will have a more contemporary sound, with John saying, “The album with Brandi, it’s a timeless record, but it’s not of its time. I want to make something that feels current.” A man who wrote that there is no point in asking what if is already, quietly and characteristically, planning what is next. And the answer, as it has always been with Elton John, is more.
