Actor Prashanth Alexander has opened up about the emotional impact of seeing his home submerged in floodwater for the third time. The actor and his family had built the house in Mallappally, Pathanamthitta, in 2018.The recurring floods have now forced the family to leave the house and move into an apartment in Thiruvalla. While they avoided the physical difficulties this time, Prashanth said the situation has taken an emotional toll.Speaking to Onmanorama, the actor said the full extent of the latest damage can only be assessed after the floodwater recedes. The house has faced repeated flooding since it was constructed.
Dream home built in 2018
Prashanth built the house with his family in 2018. At the time, the area was not considered particularly vulnerable to flooding.However, the first major flood arrived just months after construction was completed. The family was supposed to move into the house in November that year. The flood struck in August, before they could begin living there.The 2018 disaster reportedly caused financial losses of more than Rs 2 lakh. The family later believed that the incident was an exceptional occurrence. The subsequent events proved otherwise.
Floods cause repeated damage
Three years after the 2018 floods, another round of flooding affected the property. The accumulation of silt near a bridge in the region contributed to the waterlogging.On that occasion, the house interiors were completely damaged. The latest flooding has now brought back similar concerns for the family.Prashanth said the house has been affected by floodwater for the third time. The repeated damage has also changed the way the family looks at the situation.
Family moves to Thiruvalla apartment
Following the repeated problems, Prashanth and his family decided to buy an apartment in Thiruvalla. They have now shifted there permanently.Prashanth’s wife, Sheeba Prashanth, who works as an English professor at Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla, recently shared a video showing the condition of their Mallappally house.Sheeba said, “This is the house we built after waiting and longing for it. In 2018, the flood entered the house in August, even before we moved in during November. Now this is the second time. Initially, I would look at this with a broken heart, but now even my perspective towards it has changed.”The video showed the extent to which floodwater had entered the property.
‘Mentally, this is exhausting all of us’
Prashanth said the family’s decision to move away has protected them from some of the physical difficulties associated with the latest flooding. However, the emotional impact remains significant.“It is true that we haven’t had to face physical difficulties this time because we are not staying there. But mentally, this is a situation that is exhausting all of us. This is the third time that floodwater has entered our house,” Prashanth said.The actor also recalled how different the situation seemed when the house was built.“When we built the house in 2018, this area was not considered prone to flooding at all. The 2018 floods came only after we had built the house. Even after that, we thought it was a rare phenomenon that would happen only once. But it has continued to happen repeatedly.
