Career Growth Without Iit: Her father earned ₹6,000 a month, she could not crack IIT, now earns ₹2 crore: Here’s how Devshree Bhartia built her career

Her father earned ₹6,000 a month, she could not crack IIT, now earns ₹2 crore: Here’s how Devshree Bhartia built her career

There are success stories that begin with an Ivy League acceptance letter, an IIT rank, or a campus placement at a celebrated multinational. Devshree Bhartia’s story begins somewhere far less glamorous, with a family earning ₹6,000 a month, a loan taken to fund her education, and a dream that did not go according to plan. She did not make it to an IIT. She did not graduate from one of India’s elite engineering institutions. Instead, she studied at a private college, entered the workforce on a salary of ₹30,000 a month, and began the long, often invisible work of building herself through skills.Years later, that decision has taken her to the United States, Google, Walmart, and a reported annual income of around ₹2 crore. She has also taken her parents to the US, bought her first car, a Tesla, and, perhaps more significantly, reached the point where the sacrifices made by her family have acquired a tangible meaning. Her journey attracted attention online last year after she shared a glimpse of her parents visiting her Walmart workplace in the US. But the office tour is only the final frame of a much longer story. The real story is how she got there.

Her father earned ₹6,000 a month

According to the details shared about her journey, Devshree grew up in a family where her father earned around ₹6,000 per month. Her education itself required the family to take a loan. For a household with limited financial resources, spending on higher education is not merely an academic decision. It is a significant financial gamble, often made with the hope that the child will eventually build a more secure future.Devshree’s path, however, did not begin with the kind of breakthrough that many associate with Indian engineering success stories. She could not crack IIT. Instead of allowing that setback to define her career, she enrolled in a private college and eventually entered the workforce with a salary of around ₹30,000 per month. That first job was a modest beginning. But it was not where her ambition stopped.

She chose skills over the college tag

Devshree began concentrating on developing her skills, gradually strengthening her professional profile and preparing herself for better opportunities. The effort eventually paid off. She went on to crack Google, one of the world’s most sought-after technology companies. Her career subsequently took her to Walmart, where she joined as an SWE III.Alongside her professional growth, she pursued a master’s degree in the US on a scholarship. The progression is significant. From a private college to Google and then Walmart, her career demonstrates how professional growth can continue long after the college gate closes.A prestigious college can certainly provide a strong launchpad, but it does not automatically guarantee a successful career. Likewise, starting from a lesser-known institution does not necessarily mean remaining behind.

From ₹30,000 salary to reported ₹2 crore income

Today, Devshree reportedly earns around ₹2 crore a year. She has also bought her first car, a Tesla, and built a professional life in the US.But the financial figure is perhaps not the most meaningful part of her journey. For someone whose family once lived on an income of around ₹6,000 a month, the transformation represents a dramatic change in circumstances. The loan taken for her education became an investment in a future that was far from certain at the time. Her journey also offers a different perspective on the obsession with college brands in India. The IIT tag can open doors, but not getting it does not mean every door is closed. Devshree’s career shows the importance of what happens after graduation: Learning continuously, developing relevant skills, pursuing opportunities, and refusing to treat an early setback as a final verdict.

Why taking her parents to Walmart became emotional

When Devshree brought her parents to her Walmart office in the US, they were seeing far more than a corporate workplace. They were seeing the outcome of years of sacrifice.Devshree’s story is therefore not simply about a high-paying technology job or a glamorous life in the US. It is about what can happen when a modest beginning is followed by relentless skill-building and persistence. Her journey does not suggest that college does not matter. It suggests something more nuanced: college may influence where a career begins, but it does not have to decide where it ends.Disclaimer: This article is based on information shared publicly on social media regarding Devshree Bhartia’s educational and professional journey. Details such as her family income, salary and career milestones have been reported as stated in the source material and could not be independently verified.
