At 23, he left banking to chase his passion for the mountains, how Vijay Pratap Singh built a ₹10 crore trekking business

At 23, Vijay Pratap Singh made a decision that could have looked risky to many: he walked away from a career in banking to build a life around the mountains he had grown to love. What began as a personal passion eventually became AdvenThrill, an adventure travel company that organises trekking and outdoor experiences across some of India’s most popular mountain destinations and Nepal. According to reports and information on the AdvenThrill website detailing the company’s journey, AdvenThrill has generated ₹10 crore in cumulative revenue over the years. But Singh’s story did not begin with a business plan or a big investment. It began much earlier, with a young boy from Uttar Pradesh discovering the outdoors after moving to Dehradun. From a village in bulandshahr to the hills of dehradun

Singh grew up in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district and studied in a Hindi-medium school until Class VIII. In 2005, he moved to Dehradun for further education. The change in surroundings proved significant. With the Garhwal hills nearby, Singh became increasingly drawn to forests, wildlife and mountains. He spent his free time exploring the outdoors and eventually developed an interest in hiking, trekking and wildlife photography. He graduated in information technology from Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University in 2012 and initially entered the corporate world. He worked at HCL in Hyderabad before pursuing a master’s degree in international business from Chandigarh University. His next move took him to Pune, where he worked with Kotak Mahindra Bank. The job gave him exposure to clients, business strategy and management, experience that would later prove useful when he decided to build a company of his own. But the mountains never really disappeared from his life.

    The decision to leave banking

At just 23, Singh decided that a conventional corporate career was not where he wanted to spend his life. In 2016, he left his banking job and launched AdvenThrill, an adventure travel company focused on trekking and outdoor learning programmes. The decision was not entirely impulsive. Singh has said he had planned the business before leaving his job.The company began by building its online presence and arranging trekking experiences. One of its early assignments came in December 2016, when Singh led a group of 12 MBBS students from Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on a winter trek to Chopta-Tungnath in Uttarakhand. It was his first time leading a group and a test of whether his passion could actually become a profession.

    Then came the pandemic

Like almost every travel business, AdvenThrill was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With trekking and tourism effectively halted, Singh looked for another way to keep people engaged. The company shifted towards virtual marathons, allowing it to remain connected with its community while traditional adventure travel was on hold. The business eventually returned to the mountains.

    AdvenThrill

Today, AdvenThrill offers trekking, mountaineering, cycling expeditions and outdoor learning programmes. Its own website describes the organisation as focused on safety, responsible adventure tourism, environmental awareness and community engagement.

From passion project to ₹10 crore business

Over the years, Singh’s company has expanded its operations across Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Nepal. Reports published in March 2026 stated that AdvenThrill had generated ₹10 crore in cumulative revenue, with ₹45 lakh generated in 2024 alone.Singh has deliberately favoured quality over sheer volume, with reports saying the company typically organises around 10 to 20 treks a year. Its team includes people trained in mountaineering, search and rescue and first aid. The next goal is not simply to organise more trips. Singh wants to explore and map lesser-known routes, potentially opening up new possibilities for trekkers as well as mountain communities.
