The Bihar government has increased the number of music teacher vacancies under the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0 after students raised concerns over the limited number of posts. The decision comes days after the Samrat-led government accepted several key demands of protesting aspirants, including conducting the recruitment examination in a single phase.Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced that 111 additional posts have been added for music teachers for Classes 9 and 10. The increase follows representations received by the Education Department after only two vacancies had initially been earmarked for the subject.With the latest revision, the total number of vacancies under Bihar TRE 4.0 has reached 33,385. Tiwari said the department will soon forward the revised requisition to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), which conducts the teacher recruitment examination in the state.Explaining the decision, the minister said the department had initially notified only two posts for music but received several representations seeking a review. Following the submissions, 111 posts were added.
Government responds to students’ demands
The revision in vacancies comes against the backdrop of protests by teacher recruitment aspirants in Bihar. On August 27, the state government announced a series of decisions aimed at addressing several of the concerns raised by students.A key decision was to conduct the BPSC TRE in a single phase, a demand that had been at the centre of the students’ agitation.The government also announced the formation of a committee headed by a Patna High Court judge to examine issues concerning the conduct of recruitment examinations. The move is intended to bring greater scrutiny and accountability to the examination process.
Revised vacancy details to be sent to BPSC
With the addition of the 111 music teacher posts, the vacancy count for TRE 4.0 has moved beyond the 33,000 mark. The Education Department is expected to send the revised requisition to BPSC shortly.The latest development also signals a shift towards finalising vacancy numbers before the recruitment process advances further. Tiwari said authorities would, going forward, seek to notify the total number of vacancies in advance and make arrangements accordingly.The government has sought to assure protesting students that their concerns will be addressed through dialogue rather than agitation. Tiwari emphasised that students are the future of Bihar and said the government would consider every reasonable demand.The revised vacancy figure is now likely to be closely watched by teacher recruitment aspirants as they await further details from BPSC on the TRE 4.0 recruitment process.
