Rahul Roy has spoken candidly about the difficult road to recovery after suffering a brain stroke in 2020, recalling a time when he was unsure whether he would ever be able to return to a normal life. Years later, the actor says his condition has improved considerably and he is slowly rebuilding his professional life.The actor, who became a household name with ‘Aashiqui’, is now preparing to return to the screen with Kuku TV’s upcoming series ‘Super Badshah’. He will be seen playing an underworld don in the project alongside television actor Karanvir Bohra.Roy reflected on making his way back to acting after the health crisis. He revealed that he was thrilled when Bohra and Madhavi approached him for the role, although his speech difficulties remained a concern following the stroke.“When Karanvir Bohra and Madhavi approached me for the role, I was very excited. The only thing I was sceptical about was my speech problem because of the brain stroke which I had in 2020 when I was shooting in Kargil. But Karanvir was supportive throughout,” said the actor in an interview with Free Press Journal. Roy also discussed how dramatically his lifestyle has changed since the stroke. From his eating habits to his daily medication, the actor has adopted a much more disciplined routine. He revealed that he now takes eight medicines every day and has switched to a vegan diet.“After my brain stroke, I didn’t even know if I would be able to walk or talk again. I used to be a heavy smoker and a non-vegetarian, but I’ve turned vegan, and am off onion, garlic and milk and am basically having Jain food. Every day after breakfast, I have 8 medicines. But things are much better now than before,” he said.Roy suffered the brain stroke in 2020 while filming ‘LAC — Live the Battle’ in Kargil. Following the medical emergency, he was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent angiography of both the brain and heart.His career took off with the 1990 romantic musical ‘Aashiqui’, directed by Mahesh Bhatt. The film, which paired Roy with Anu Aggarwal, revolved around the relationship between Rahul and Anu and turned the actor into an overnight sensation.In recent years, Roy has gradually returned to acting. His last major film appearance was in Kanu Behl’s ‘Agra’, a psychological drama featuring Mohit Agarwal and Priyanka Bose. The film was released in Indian theatres in November 2025.Now, with ‘Super Badshah’, Roy is set to make his comeback.
