For those who have long admired Mammootty, there is now a chance to inhabit a space where he spent his prime years, won multiple acting honours, and had long conversations about cinema; where his children spent their formative years, and where the family celebrated festivals and weathered monsoons together. The Mammootty House does not cash in on the star power, but trades in the details: the balcony where he greeted admirers, the private theatre with 2,000 DVDs from his personal archive, and bedrooms designed around the personalities of each family member.

The three-storey home sits away from the bustle of the city, in a part of Kochi which most tourists never visit. The property in Panampilly Nagar carries the charm of a village, along with an urban rhythm, just the way Mammootty has always wanted. “I crave the conveniences of the city and the verdant lushness of rural life; I always try to create a village for myself within the city.” The villa the superstar lived in for more than a decade is now a boutique villa, managed by VKation Experiences, a provider of luxury stays across South India. The family still owns it, but they have chosen to open it to those who are curious enough to know the star’s life beyond his on-screen persona.

An old mango tree guards the entrance, with its branches spread across the garden. The branches have stood silently over the years, witnessing the superstar’s everyday routines, emotions never seen on the silver screen, and the kind of conversations that only happen at home. Walk past the tree, and the three-storey residence reveals itself: minimalist and modern, designed by the superstar’s wife, Sulfath. “This home has lovely memories attached to it. Although it was not constructed by us, we truly made it our own,” Mammootty said when the house was listed as a boutique villa on the market in 2025.

    The living room

The foyer opens into a family living room, with multiple seating areas, coffee tables, and long windows to soak in as much sun as possible. These very walls witnessed conversations brew, and Mammootty, along with his filmmakers, shaped those ideas into sheer art. Books line the shelves nearby, chronicling the superstar’s illustrious journey. Some are still available for purchase if you want to take a piece of cinema history home.

On the wall beside the staircase, a timeline of frames traces Mammootty’s journey through decades. Near the living area sits a beautiful memory framed in perfection: Mammootty with MT Vasudevan Nair, the doyen of Malayalam literature, who gifted priceless characters to the superstar’s filmography. A photo with the legend, without which Mammootty’s career looks incomplete.

The rooms serve as a reminder of the people who once inhabited them. The master bedroom bears Mammootty’s name. It is everything that one would expect. The suite opens onto a balcony overlooking the mango tree and yard. Curated with contemporary art and furniture, reflecting Mammootty’s personal style, the suite comes with a walk-in wardrobe, dressing table, and large bathroom with a rain shower. The plants add a layer of freshness to the suite.

Mammootty won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor in 2009 for his role in ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ while living here. Some of his best films, including ‘Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja’ in 2009 and ‘Pranchiyettan and the Saint’ in 2010, were also born at a time when he called this place his home.

    Dulquer Salmaan's room

Mammootty’s son Dulquer Salmaan’s room is purely a petrolhead’s dream. Its minimal, clean aesthetic also blends in his enthusiasm for automobiles and cinema. From the marble floors to sleek furniture and a walk-in wardrobe, every detail is deliberate and picked with care, giving a glimpse of the actor’s journey and interests. “I stayed here after moving back from Dubai. I started my first film (Second Show) while living here. We were here till my daughter Marie was about two to three years old. This house holds all those memories,” Dulquer Salmaan told Condé Nast Traveller earlier. This home has also seen him prepping for his hits like ‘Ustad Hotel (2012)’ and the Tamil musical ‘OK Kanmani (2015)’.

    Surumi's room

Mammootty’s daughter Surumi’s space is a perfect haven for the artist she is. A graphic designer, the room has intricate details and art that reflect her taste.

Even the downstairs guest room carries history. It once belonged to Mammootty’s mother. The cosy and warm room now features photos of Mammootty’s parents, rare ones from his personal archive.

How can a superstar’s home not have a theatre in it? The abode also houses a private theatre on the top floor. This home theatre has 2,000 DVDs from Mammootty’s personal collection. The room is dedicated to the thespian’s art. A shrine of sorts for his work. Visitors, especially cinema enthusiasts, can watch and perhaps take notes while leaving the theatre.

    Breakfast buffet

The villa comes with breakfast service, a dining space, garden access, and staff to handle the details. A buffet-style breakfast menu has a continental spread of sourdough, croissants, Danish pastries, baked beans, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, cereals, pancakes, waffles, as well as beverages like tea, coffee, and fresh juices. Visitors can also go to the nearby cafés and restaurants.

Mammootty House is nestled in Panampilly Nagar, a part of Kochi which most tourists skip. The property is on KC Joseph Road. The villa is roughly three kilometres south of Marine Drive. Cabs are easier than navigation apps in this part of the city, and most drivers know Panampilly Nagar well enough. Once you arrive, the mango tree at the entrance is unmistakable, and the house sits behind it.Nearby attractions include, the Durbar Hall Art Gallery (2km), Ernakulam Shiva Temple, Subhash Park (2.5km), and Marine Drive (3km).
