Soak the removable parts instead of scrubbing them dry

A far more effective approach is to fill the basket and tray with warm, soapy water and let them soak for around fifteen to twenty minutes before touching them with a sponge. That soaking time does most of the heavy lifting on its own, loosening stubborn residue so that a soft sponge or non-abrasive brush can wipe it away with minimal effort afterwards. For anything particularly stuck on, an old toothbrush works well to get into the corners and mesh without damaging the surface, and rinsing everything thoroughly before letting it air dry completely rounds off the process. Wipe the interior and heating element with a damp cloth, never water directly

This part needs a gentler touch than the removable pieces, a damp cloth or sponge is enough to wipe down the interior walls, and for the heating coil specifically, a soft brush works better than a wet cloth since it should never come into direct contact with water. For stubborn grease that a plain damp cloth won’t budge, a small amount of vinegar mixed with water, or a light baking soda paste for tougher stains, can be applied to the cloth and worked over the area before wiping clean. It’s worth being patient here rather than pressing hard or using anything abrasive, since the heating element and interior components are more delicate than the basket and can be damaged fairly easily with rough handling.
Make cleaning a habit rather than an occasional deep-clean
The single biggest factor in how much effort air fryer cleaning takes is how often it actually gets done. Wiping down the basket and giving the interior a quick check after every use takes only a couple of minutes and prevents grease from building up into the kind of stubborn, baked-on layer that eventually needs a proper soak and scrub session. Using parchment liners or a light coat of oil applied with a brush rather than an aerosol spray also cuts down on how much residue sticks to the basket in the first place, since aerosol sprays in particular can leave behind a film that’s harder to remove and may affect the non-stick coating over time.
