“When you stop considering yourself big, space opens for God.”
One of Maharaj ji’s most repeated ideas is that the biggest obstacle between a person and the Divine isn’t distance, but it’s ego. As long as we see ourselves as the doer, the important one, the center of everything, there’s simply no space left for God to enter our life.It’s not that God is absent; it is just about the fact that we’re too full of ourselves to notice. Premanand ji asks for something that might be quite uncomfortable to some people: quietly step back from the need to be seen as big, capable, or in control. Ironically, that’s the very moment things start opening up, the decisions feel lighter, anxiety eases, and life stops feeling like something you have to win alone, and that you alone are not responsible for everything.

Premanand ji touches on the most common idea that we often tend to look for spirituality as something that is outside ourselves. Life doesn’t wait for us to feel spiritually ready before throwing hardships at us; grief, fear, and uncertainty all come uninvited. Maharaj ji compares the Divine Name to a single star in a completely dark sky, which is small, steady, and sufficient to keep you oriented even when you can’t see the road ahead.He does not mean that by doing this, the darkness disappears. It is just that we do not need to know everything before embarking on a path; instead, just following the goal is enough.So, this is why repeating God’s name (naam-japa) is the central idea to his teachings.
