What does life in Sydney look like when you put the monthly numbers together? One Indian man’s recent social media post has sparked discussion after he shared a detailed account of his earnings, spending and savings during his time in Australia.Divyaj Gautam said he had 18 days left in Sydney when he decided to share the figures from his journey. His work in Australia took him through different jobs before he eventually started his own consulting practice.
His first job paid $500 a week
Gautam began working at an Indian grocery store, where he worked six days a week and earned around $500 per week. That is approximately Rs 47,976.He later moved to a retail job and said his weekly earnings increased to around $1,100, or about Rs 1,05,547.
From retail to his own practice
Gautam eventually started working as a psychosocial risk consultant. His earlier jobs paid him for the hours he worked, while his consulting practice paid him for a service.
Rent took up the biggest share
Accommodation was his largest monthly expense, with rent costing around $2,400. That comes to approximately Rs 2,30,321.He listed utilities at around $350 and groceries at about $500 a month. His gym membership cost around $100.Going out accounted for another $500 to $600 each month.Based on the figures he shared, his total monthly spending came to around $3,900, or approximately Rs 3,74,338.
He saved around $3,600 every month
After his regular expenses, Gautam said he had around $3,600 left from his post-tax monthly income.That is approximately Rs 3,45,543.He said he saved almost all of the remaining amount. As he prepared to leave Australia, he said having those savings would give him a financial cushion.He said he would rather return to India with a financial cushion than with a plan.
