The 55-year-old former actress and model recently attended the Step Up’s 2026 Annual Inspiration Awards. During a conversation with PEOPLE, Gayheart opened up about how their lives have been and how everything has changed in their household following Dane’s passing. She also shared that their daughters Billie Beatrice, 16, and Georgia Geraldine, 14, are ‘hanging’ on.She added during the interview: “You know, we’re hanging in there. I think it’s definitely a challenging season, but we’re doing our best. The girls are both in high school—which is also a big transition under any circumstance—so I’m just staying close to my kids.”How Rebecca Gayheart deals with life when things get hardDuring the interview, she was also asked about how she deals with things sometimes when it all gets too much to handle. The ‘Beverly Hills’ star revealed that one of the main things that gets her through the hard times is spending time with people who love and care about her and those she can lean on.She mentioned, “friends. My children. Being under the same roof with my kids and having them next to me, safe, always makes me feel better. You know, there are certain people I like to talk to to get my feelings out, but really just—again—being connected to other human beings. That’s what gets me through.”

Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane met for the first time in 2003, and within 10 months of dating, the two decided to tie the knot in a private ceremony on October 29, 2004. While talking to Flaunt magazine in 2008, the actor briefly addressed how their relationship began, sharing, “It’s probably one of the least interesting stories in the world. It went basically like this: ‘You want to go out?’ ‘Yeah, sure.’ Ten months later, we were married.“In March 2010, Gayheart gave birth to the couple’s first child, daughter Billie Beatrice. Earlier, as they prepared for parenthood, Dane featured on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ and opened up about how much he looked forward to becoming a father. “I’ll be in the room. I’m going to stay close to my wife and make sure that she is all right. I’m really excited. I’m also very interested,” he shared at the time. Their first daughter was named after Dane’s father. The couple later welcomed their second daughter, Georgia Geraldine, in December 2011.Eric Dane passed away in February 2026, almost a year after he announced that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
