Sobhana Mostary produced a record-breaking performance as Bangladesh recovered from a disastrous start to post 220/6 against Australia in the second ODI at Allan Border Field. The right-handed batter struck her maiden international century, becoming the first Bangladesh woman to score an international hundred against Australia.Mostary’s 118 off 134 balls proved crucial for the visitors after Australia elected to bowl first in the must-win encounter. Her fighting knock, combined with a valuable contribution from captain Nigar Sultana, helped Bangladesh recover from 8/3 and give themselves a competitive total.

Mostary, Sultana rescue Bangladesh after early collapse

Bangladesh were in deep trouble early in their innings, losing three wickets for just eight runs. However, Mostary and Sultana joined forces to turn the game around, stitching together a remarkable 195-run partnership for the fourth wicket.Mostary showcased composure and determination throughout her innings, striking 18 boundaries to bring up a memorable century. Sultana provided equally important support, scoring 74 off 114 deliveries as the pair steadied the innings and laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s recovery. Before Mostary’s century, Sultana held the record for the highest individual score by a Bangladesh woman against Australia, having scored an unbeaten 63 in a T20I.

    Record-breaking partnership rewrites ODI history

The 195-run stand between Mostary and Sultana became Bangladesh’s highest partnership for any wicket in women’s ODI cricket. The duo surpassed the previous record of 152 runs, which Sultana and Sharmin Akhter had registered for the third wicket against Thailand in 2025.The partnership also established a new benchmark against Australia in women’s ODIs, eclipsing the previous record of 170 runs. New Zealand’s Emily Drumm and Rebecca Rolls had held that record with their second-wicket stand in 2002.Mostary’s landmark innings ended in the 48th over when Megan Schutt bowled her for 118. Schutt finished with four wickets, having struck twice in the powerplay to dismiss Fargana Hoque and Sharmin Akhter before later removing Shorna Akter.

Bangladesh aim to level the series

Despite the early setbacks, Bangladesh showed resilience to finish at 220/6, with Mostary and Sultana’s record partnership providing the backbone of their innings. The visitors entered the second ODI looking to bounce back after losing the series opener.
