For this anonymous user, the biggest challenge appeared after getting laid off from a high paying job. He says he was laid off while on four months of paternity leave. He further writes, “Got laid off this year while I was on 4 months of Paternity leave”.As per the post, he has a newborn child and no family support to rely on. Looking for another job, preparing for interviews and managing the responsibilities of a new parent can be demanding. Losing employment at such a crucial time has made the situation more difficult. He also says he cannot immediately devote himself to finding another position because he needs to manage his family responsibilities. From a ₹92 lakh tax bill to uncertainty over the next jobThe engineer says he is now struggling to find a job that can even offer ₹90 lakh annually. For someone who describes himself as a highly paid professional, the experience raises an uncomfortable question: how secure is a lucrative corporate career?A high salary can bring financial comfort, but it also comes with several uncertainties and substantial expenses. There are many financial commitments and expectations about the future. When employment ends suddenly, those commitments still remain. His post also claims that he cannot find a suitable role. Why he is worried about severance payThe engineer says he urgently needs his severance payment to manage the transition. But the prospect of paying tax on that amount has added to his frustration.“The Government will again LOOT me through taxing on SEVERANCE as well,” he wrote. His words have started a wider online discussion about what employees receive in return for the taxes they pay.“I am leaving India soon”. He wrote questioning the level of protection available to employees in India. The post ends with a striking declaration about his plans for the future.“I am leaving India soon and would never want to come back,” he wrote. For a new parent, losing such a high-paying job unexpectedly means uncertainty over household finances, the ability to plan for a child’s future and much more.
