Reality TV personalities Todd Chrisley and wife Julie are facing renewed financial scrutiny after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) filed a federal tax lien of approximately $1.57 million against them in Davidson County, Tennessee. The development comes more than a year after US President Donald Trump granted the couple a presidential pardon in connection with their high-profile federal fraud and tax evasion convictions.According to Page Six, which reported the development after reviewing public records, the lien was filed on August 19, 2026. The assessments relate to unpaid taxes for two separate periods, covering 2021 and 2022.The new tax development has drawn attention because the couple’s earlier convictions had resulted in prison sentences before Trump’s intervention in May 2025. However, the reported lien concerns tax assessments that are separate from the criminal case for which they received pardons.

Todd and Julie Chrisley’s $1.57 million IRS tax lien explained

According to records reviewed by Page Six, the federal tax lien comprises two assessments. The first is for $142,410.72 for the tax period ending December 31, 2021. The assessment was reportedly made on December 5, 2022.The second, substantially larger assessment amounts to $1,429,041.89 for the tax period ending December 31, 2022. It was reportedly assessed on December 11, 2023.Together, the two assessments total approximately $1.57 million. The lien was filed in Davidson County, Tennessee, on August 19, 2026. The report states that it is unrelated to the financial transactions underlying Todd and Julie’s earlier federal convictions.A tax lien is a legal claim against property arising from unpaid tax obligations. Its filing does not, by itself, establish that the couple have committed a new criminal offence.

Why Donald Trump pardoned Todd and Julie Chrisley in 2025

Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted in June 2022 in a federal case involving bank fraud and tax evasion. Prosecutors alleged that the couple obtained more than $36 million in loans by submitting falsified financial documents to lenders.According to prosecutors, the money was used to finance an expensive lifestyle that included vehicles, designer clothing, homes and travel. The couple were sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison and began serving their sentences in January 2023. Todd, now 57, initially received a 12-year sentence, which was subsequently reduced to 10 years. Julie, now 53, was sentenced to seven years.Todd served his sentence in Florida, while Julie was incarcerated in Kentucky. In May 2025, Trump pardoned the couple, bringing their imprisonment to an end. Their daughter Savannah Chrisley had publicly campaigned for their release, and the president reportedly called her personally to inform her of his decision. The pardon addressed their federal criminal convictions. It should not be interpreted as automatically cancelling separate tax assessments or other financial obligations.

Todd Chrisley previously denied remorse over his conviction

Following his release, Todd publicly challenged the circumstances surrounding his conviction.During a 2025 news conference, he was asked whether he felt remorse for the conduct that had led to his conviction.“I would have remorse if it was something that I did,” he said, adding that he believed alleged corruption in the case would continue to come to light. His remarks reflected his continued opposition to the prosecution’s account of the events. The new tax lien, however, is a separate matter and does not by itself resolve disputes over the original case.

Todd and Julie Chrisley return to television after their release

Despite the legal and financial scrutiny surrounding their case, the Chrisleys have continued making television appearances.Earlier in 2026, the couple appeared on Fox’s reality competition series The Masked Singer, performing Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” in a playful reference to their prison sentences.Todd told Gold Derby that he had wanted to perform the song as a tongue-in-cheek response to their circumstances and their critics.Julie said the experience had been enjoyable despite taking her outside her comfort zone, explaining that she was not a singer but had loved competing alongside her husband.Their appearance marked another chapter in the couple’s efforts to remain in the public eye following their release.

Savannah Chrisley and the family’s role in their release

Savannah played a prominent role in campaigning for her parents’ freedom before Trump granted their pardons.Todd is the father of five children. He shares daughter Lindsie and son Kyle with his former wife, Teresa Terry. With Julie, he has children Chase, Savannah and Grayson. The family’s public profile grew through the reality series Chrisley Knows Best, which followed their affluent lifestyle and family relationships.Their criminal convictions and subsequent pardons became a major turning point in their public story, bringing their financial dealings under renewed scrutiny.
