Former Delhi HR professional quits her corporate job and moves to Goa in search of purpose but faces financial worries and uncertainty in her new life

Leaving a steady job can look like freedom from the outside. There is no daily office commute, no fixed working hours and no familiar routine to follow. But once the excitement of a fresh start fades, a different set of questions can emerge: What comes next? How long will the savings last? And what happens when the life you chose feels less certain than the one you left behind? For Arpita Sahu, a former human resources professional who worked in Delhi, these questions have become part of her move to Goa. After completing her MBA and spending four and a half years working, she decided to step away from corporate life and begin again in a new place. Through videos shared on Instagram, Sahu has been documenting the emotional side of this transition, from the hope of finding a place to call home to the anxiety of living without a regular salary. Her experience offers a glimpse into a side of career change that is often missing from pictures of scenic beaches and carefree living.

A new address, but no ready-made answers

Sahu’s move to Goa was not simply about exchanging a busy city for a holiday destination. She was looking for a fresh chapter and hoping to discover what she wanted from life beyond her established career. Her professional background includes experience as an HR professional at companies such as Info Edge India Ltd and Cognizant, according to the details shared about her LinkedIn profile. Leaving that world behind meant giving up the familiarity of a structured working life and stepping into an uncertain future. In a video documenting her arrival, Sahu showed herself packing her belongings and leaving her corporate routine behind. The decision marked a change in more than her location. She was also entering a phase in which her next steps were not already mapped out by a job, an office schedule or familiar professional expectations. She expressed hope that Goa would eventually feel like home and that she would find people with whom she could connect. Until then, she said, she would continue searching for that sense of belonging. The uncertainty is central to her story. Moving somewhere new can offer the possibility of reinvention, but it does not automatically provide a community, a sense of direction or answers to questions that may have existed long before the move.

The first Monday without an office

The reality of leaving work became particularly clear when Sahu experienced her first Monday without the usual expectation of going to the office. For many employees, Monday represents the beginning of another working week. For someone who has left a job voluntarily, however, the same day can bring an unfamiliar mix of relief, freedom and unease. The routine may be gone, but the questions about what to do next remain. Sahu spoke openly about the pressure she felt during this period. She was conscious of the money in her bank account and knew that her savings would not last indefinitely. Without a regular salary, everyday decisions could carry a different weight. She also described struggling with her attention span, saying she found herself repeatedly checking Instagram and looking at follower numbers instead of watching something without distraction. Her experience highlights how a major life change can affect more than finances. A job provides not only income but also structure, regular goals and a sense of progress. Once that framework disappears, a person may have to build a new routine while managing the uncertainty that comes with it.

When freedom comes with financial pressure

Sahu’s account challenges the idea that leaving a corporate job automatically leads to a happier or more meaningful life. The decision may create room to explore new interests, but it can also introduce pressure to prove that the choice was worthwhile. She described an unspoken expectation to do well, alongside the knowledge that her financial resources were limited. That combination can make a fresh start emotionally demanding, particularly when there is no clear timeline for finding work, building a new career or deciding what comes next.Social media can add another layer to this experience. Platforms make it easy to document a move, share personal reflections and connect with people going through similar changes. At the same time, checking views, followers and engagement can become a distraction when someone is already trying to work out their next steps. Sahu’s willingness to share these concerns makes her story more relatable than a simple account of quitting a job and moving to a scenic location. It shows that uncertainty does not necessarily disappear when a person makes a bold decision. Sometimes, it becomes more visible.

Searching for a life that feels like home

The response to Sahu’s videos reflected different ideas about what makes a life fulfilling. Some users encouraged her to consider whether Goa’s slower pace would support her goals, while others shared broader reflections on living in the present rather than organising life entirely around future achievements. One commenter suggested that Mumbai might offer a faster pace and better opportunities for stability. Another encouraged her to focus on experiencing life as it unfolds rather than feeling compelled to achieve a particular purpose. These reactions point to a question without a universal answer: should people prioritise financial security, professional growth, personal freedom or the search for a place where they feel they belong? Sahu’s experience does not establish that leaving a job is the right choice for everyone, nor does it suggest that moving to Goa will resolve every concern. Instead, it shows the complexity of making a major change without knowing exactly how the next chapter will unfold. For now, her journey is still in progress. She is adjusting to a new city, confronting financial concerns and looking for a sense of purpose and connection. The move may eventually lead her towards the life she wants, but the process is unlikely to be as straightforward as a change of address. Perhaps the most revealing part of her story is not that she walked away from a corporate career. It is that she is willing to acknowledge what comes after the decision: the doubts, the pressure and the difficult work of building a life when the familiar roadmap is no longer there.
