Samuel L. Jackson has always stood by his own, regardless of what other people have wanted from him. Throughout his career, the star has almost always chosen roles that he truly enjoyed doing, rather than pursuing roles that were ‘guaranteed’ hits for the possibility of winning awards. He repeatedly highlighted the importance of following your heart’s desires rather than conforming to what other people or society want from you. Today’s quote reflects his words of wisdom. The quote of the day by the ‘Captain Marvel’ star Samuel L. Jackson reads, “I was never going to let the Oscars be a measure of my success or failure as an actor. My yardstick of success is my happiness: Am I satisfied with what I’m doing? I’m not doing statue-chasing movies. You know, ‘If you do this movie, you’ll win an Oscar.’ No, thanks. I’d rather be Nick Fury. Or having fun being Mace Windu with a lightsaber in my hand.”

Jackson’s quote is all about knowing what you want in life and going for it with no fear in your mind, rather than going for the safe option (Instagram)
The actor said these words during a 2022 interview with The LA Times, where he discussed his career and how he has always focused on the work he wants to do, not what other people expect from him.Essentially, the Marvel actor’s words focus on rejecting the idea of external approval, focusing instead on what makes you happy. Connecting the ideology to his situation in the Hollywood industry, where prestige is ruled by high-end awards, Jackson dictates his own value and prestige in the world. He says that rather than letting such awards define him and all the work he has put into his art, he would rather work elsewhere. The quote is all about opting for things you want, rather than doing what others want from you or doing something that is considered the norm. Ultimately, it highlights a mature perspective on work and life: true success and satisfaction come not from collecting badges of honour defined by others, but from doing work that brings you joy on your own terms.
