Meet Takshvi Vaghani, the 8-year-old who turned a pandemic hobby into five world records

Takshvi Vaghani from Ahmedabad, unlike children of her age, did something a little different. The 8-year-old girl straps on her roller skates, bends so low her back almost touches the ground, and glides under a bar set just 16 centimetres high; about the height of a regular stapler. It began as a simple way to stay busy during the long months of the pandemic lockdown, but has grown into five official world records and a story that makes grown-ups stop and smile. Her parents never planned for any of this. They only wanted to keep their little girl active when the world outside had shut down. Looking back now, that quiet decision has turned into something far bigger than anyone expected.

    A lockdown hobby that stuck

When the COVID restrictions kept everyone indoors, Takshvi’s parents, Hernil and Devanshi, started bringing home different sports kits, boxing gloves, cricket bats, whatever they could find. Among the pile was a pair of roller skates. Takshvi, then just four, latched onto them immediately as Indian Express reported. While speaking to ANI her father said, “When Takshvi was 2.5 years old, we introduced her to various sports, through which we discovered that she was interested in skating.”Her mother remembers how the other toys were quickly forgotten while the skates stayed in constant use. The family later realised her natural flexibility, already sharpened by karate lessons, combined perfectly with the speed she developed on wheels. That mix became the foundation of limbo skating, a sport almost no one in Gujarat was practising at the time.

Building records one careful glide at a time

Takshvi had already begun collecting recognitions. In 2023 she earned an entry in the Golden Book of World Records for skating under 22 SUVs one after another. The same year she appeared in the India Book of Records for the Lowest Limbo Roller Skating by a child and in the International Book of Records for the Fastest 50-metre Limbo Skating Under Bars as reported by Ahmedabad Mirror. Then came the bigger milestones. In 2024 she set the Guinness World Record for the Lowest Limbo Skating over 25 metres at a height of just 16 centimetres. In 2026 she repeated the feat over 10 metres at the same height, reclaiming and confirming her place in the Guinness books.

    More than just skating

Limbo skating is only one part of Takshvi’s busy life. She already holds a green belt in karate, which helps explain the extraordinary flexibility needed to fold her body so low while staying balanced on wheels. She performed on the television show India’s Got Talent, showing the same calm focus that later helped her through official record attempts.“We didn’t know how Guinness World Records worked,” her mother said. “We first participated in the India Book of Records, then the International Book of Records, and the Golden Book of Records. Those experiences helped us understand the documentation process before applying for Guinness.”

    Looking ahead with quiet ambition

When people ask Takshvi what she wants next, her answers are refreshingly straightforward. She plans to keep skating, of course, but she also talks about joining the Air Force one day and winning a gold medal for India.Gymnastics at the Olympics and even a future in professional cricket sit on her list of dreams. Her father often points out that none of this would have happened without her own daily effort. “Her passion comes from within. If it wasn’t her own dream, none of this would have been possible” he said.In a world that often rushes children into pressure, Takshvi’s story feels like a gentle reminder that curiosity, steady support and a pair of roller skates can sometimes be enough to start something remarkable.
