Inside a Dubai 1BHK rented for Rs 28.6 lakh a year: Content creator uses white interiors, low-profile furniture and skyline views that make a small home look bigger and brighter

A small apartment does not necessarily have to feel cramped. Sometimes, the right colours, carefully chosen furniture and a little attention to layout can make a compact home feel brighter, calmer and more open. Content creator Kanupriya Mehendiratta has offered a glimpse of how this can work through a tour of the rented one-bedroom, hall and kitchen (1BHK) apartment she moved into with her husband in Dubai. In an Instagram Reel shared on July 21, Kanupriya introduced the home as the beginning of a new chapter. “Moved to this 1 BHK in Dubai with my husband… I can’t wait to turn this little apartment into a place that truly feels like home and fill it with memories we’ll always look back on. Here’s to new beginnings,” she wrote. The fully furnished apartment costs 110,000 UAE dirhams a year, including maintenance, which is approximately Rs 28.65 lakh. The home also offers views of Dubai’s skyline, including Dubai Mall and the upper portion of the Burj Khalifa. While the location and amenities such as a gym and swimming pool add to its appeal, the interiors offer several ideas for making the most of limited space.

An all-white palette that makes the home feel open

One of the most noticeable features of Kanupriya’s apartment is its consistent use of white. The walls, tiled flooring and cabinetry across the entrance and living area follow a light, clean palette. This approach can be useful in smaller homes because white surfaces reflect natural light, helping rooms appear brighter. Keeping the main colour scheme consistent also creates visual continuity between adjoining areas, making an open-plan layout feel less divided. The look does not rely on elaborate decorations or multiple competing shades. Instead, the uncluttered background allows furniture and smaller decorative details to stand out without making the space feel busy. For renters who cannot repaint walls or undertake major renovations, choosing light-coloured furnishings, curtains and accessories can help create a similar effect.

Low-profile furniture keeps the living area uncluttered

Furniture can make a significant difference to how spacious a room feels. Oversized pieces may take up valuable floor area and interrupt sightlines, particularly in an apartment where the living room and other spaces connect. Kanupriya’s living area features a low-backed, light grey tufted sofa, a white curved armchair, a sleek coffee table and a simple TV console. The pieces complement the white surroundings while keeping the overall look understated.Low-profile seating leaves more of the wall visible above the furniture, which can create a greater sense of height. Choosing a few well-proportioned pieces rather than filling every corner also allows people to move around comfortably. The idea is not to eliminate furniture but to ensure that each piece serves a purpose. In a compact home, an open walkway and a clear view across the room can be just as important as the furniture itself.

A window-facing desk and smart kitchen storage

The apartment’s floor-to-ceiling window is another feature that shapes the interiors. Kanupriya has placed a white desk and cream office chair in a small nook beside the window, creating a dedicated workspace without requiring a separate room. Positioning the desk towards the window allows the workspace to benefit from natural daylight and the surrounding skyline. For people working from home, a compact desk in an underused corner can provide a practical alternative to sacrificing a large portion of the living area. The kitchen follows the same emphasis on simplicity and function. Seamless white cabinets sit alongside black countertops, while built-in appliances, including an oven, microwave and dishwasher, help keep the space organised. Storage is especially important in small homes, where everyday items can quickly crowd countertops. Keeping frequently used essentials accessible while storing other items inside cabinets can make the kitchen easier to use and maintain. Open upper shelves also offer room for a few pantry essentials or decorative objects, provided they do not become cluttered.

Chandeliers and artwork add character without overwhelming the space

The apartment’s predominantly white interiors are balanced with decorative accents. Crystal chandeliers in the living area and bedroom introduce a touch of glamour, while a gold-framed artwork in the bedroom adds warmth and personality. The bedroom itself combines a large window, a comfortable bed and fitted white wardrobes, keeping the main elements simple. Rather than relying on numerous accessories, the design uses a few standout pieces to give the room character. This is a useful approach for anyone decorating a rented home. Lighting, framed artwork, cushions and other removable accessories can change the mood of a room without requiring permanent alterations. Kanupriya’s apartment demonstrates how a compact home can feel more inviting through a combination of light colours, restrained furniture, practical storage and thoughtful decorative choices. Although its views and building amenities are specific to its Dubai location, many of the interior ideas can be adapted to smaller apartments elsewhere, without changing a single wall.
