He topped JEE, joined IIT Bombay and still wasn't done, now, he's won gold for India at International Chemistry Olympiad
After topping JEE and joining IIT Bombay, Kabeer Chillar brings home Chemistry Olympiad gold for India

For most students, securing AIR 1 in JEE Main or earning a seat in IIT Bombay‘s Computer Science programme would be the culmination of years of hard work. For Kabeer Chillar, it was only the beginning.Months after making headlines for his phenomenal performance in India’s toughest engineering entrance examinations, Kabeer has once again brought laurels to the country—this time on the global stage. The IIT Bombay student is among the four-member Indian team that won four gold medals at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, helping India register its best-ever performance in the prestigious competition.

From JEE topper to global chemistry champion

Kabeer’s academic journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In JEE Main 2026, he scored a perfect 300 out of 300, securing All India Rank (AIR) 1. He followed it up with AIR 2 in JEE Advanced, scoring an impressive 329 out of 360, earning admission to the coveted Computer Science programme at IIT Bombay. For many aspirants, that would have marked the end of an intense academic journey.Instead, Kabeer continued preparing for another challenge—representing India at one of the world’s toughest chemistry competitions. His latest achievement demonstrates that academic excellence is not confined to a single examination or discipline.

    India’s historic performance

At the International Chemistry Olympiad 2026, Kabeer joined fellow Indian students Debadatta Priyadarshi, Harshit Singla and Sandeep Kuchi in scripting history. All four members of the Indian contingent returned home with gold medals, making it India’s most successful performance at the Olympiad to date. The International Chemistry Olympiad is among the world’s most prestigious competitions for school students, testing participants through rigorous theoretical and practical examinations that demand conceptual clarity, analytical thinking and exceptional problem-solving skills.Competing against some of the brightest young minds from across the globe, India’s clean sweep highlights the growing strength of the country’s Olympiad ecosystem.

    Excellence beyond entrance examinations

Kabeer’s journey also challenges a common perception among students—that success ends with cracking a competitive entrance examination. His achievements show that learning extends far beyond admission to a premier institute.Whether it is excelling in national entrance tests or representing India on the international stage, the underlying qualities remain the same: curiosity, discipline, consistency and the willingness to keep pushing personal boundaries. For students preparing for JEE, NEET or Olympiads, his story offers an important reminder. Competitive examinations may open doors, but continuous learning and intellectual curiosity create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. As Kabeer Chillar adds yet another milestone to an already extraordinary academic journey, he also inspires countless young learners to dream bigger, work harder and remember that excellence has no finish line.Disclaimer: This article is based on publicly available information regarding Kabeer Chillar’s academic achievements and India’s performance at the 58th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2026.
