Feeling low? These 5 simple habits can help you feel better in less than 15 minutes
These five simple habits can help lift your mood in under 15 minutes.

We all have days when everything feels a little too much. A stressful email, a long to-do list, an awkward conversation, or simply feeling mentally drained can quickly affect your mood. While some problems take time to solve, not every bad moment has to turn into a bad day.Sometimes, a small pause is all your mind needs. Even a few intentional minutes can help you reset, regain focus, and feel a little lighter. The key isn’t to ignore difficult emotions but to give yourself a chance to recharge before moving forward. Here are five simple ways to help yourself feel better in less than 15 minutes.

Step outside and let your senses slow down

If you’ve been indoors for hours, take a short break outside. You don’t need a long walk or a nearby park. Simply standing on your balcony, walking around your building, or sitting under a tree for a few minutes can help break the cycle of stress.Notice the breeze, listen to birds, watch the clouds, or pay attention to the sounds around you. Focusing on your surroundings helps pull your attention away from racing thoughts and brings you back to the present moment.

    Try the ‘brain dump’ method

When your mind feels crowded with worries or unfinished tasks, grab a notebook or open a notes app and write down everything that’s on your mind.Don’t worry about grammar, structure, or making sense. Just let your thoughts flow. Once they’re out of your head and onto paper, they often feel less overwhelming. You may even notice that some worries seem much smaller than they did a few minutes earlier.

Move your body for 10 minutes

You don’t have to complete an intense workout to change your mood. A brisk walk, light stretching, dancing to your favourite song, or climbing a few flights of stairs can help wake up both your body and your mind.Movement encourages better circulation and can leave you feeling more refreshed, especially if you’ve been sitting for long periods.

Put your phone away and take a mindful pause

When you’re feeling emotionally overwhelmed, endless scrolling often makes it worse. News updates, social media posts, and constant notifications can keep your brain in a state of overload.Instead, put your phone aside for 10 to 15 minutes. Close your eyes, focus on your breathing, sip a warm cup of tea, or simply sit quietly without trying to do anything. Giving your brain a short break from digital stimulation can help restore a sense of calm.

Do one small thing you’ve been avoiding

Sometimes, stress comes from unfinished tasks rather than the tasks themselves. Reply to that email, fold the laundry, make your bed, or organize your desk.Completing even one small task creates a sense of progress and accomplishment. It reminds your brain that you’re capable of taking action, which can reduce feelings of being stuck or overwhelmed.Thumb image: Canva (for representative purposes only)
