Quote of the day by Sadhguru: “With age, your physical agility may go down. Your Aliveness need not go down.”; What the yogi and mystic advises on staying ‘young’ from within despite old age
Societal celebration of youth often creates fear and doubt about growing older. Physical agility may decline with age, but inner aliveness need not fade. Modern lifestyles can drain mental energy long before reaching old age. Healthy ageing involves maintaining dignity, purpose, and well-being alongside physical health. Conscious effort through activity and engagement fosters a vibrant inner spirit.

Growing older is one of the few experiences that is common to every human being, yet our attitude towards ageing often remains filled with fear and doubt. Society celebrates youth, speed, and physical strength so much that many people begin to believe that getting older automatically means becoming less joyful, less capable, or less enthusiastic about life. We often hear people say, “I’m too old for this,” even when their age is not the real limitation. More often than not, it is their mindset that has aged before their body.

The real challenge is no longer just adding years to life, but adding life to those years. The following quote by Sadhguru beautifully describes this thought and reminds us that while physical abilities may decline with age, our enthusiasm for living, learning, and growing never has to fade.

    Quote of the day

With age your physical agility may go down Your Aliveness need not go down

    Sadhguru

    What does the quote mean?

Ageing is a natural biological process. As we grow older, our muscles lose strength, reaction time becomes slower, and recovery from illness or injury may take longer. These are well-established facts supported by medical science. However, Sadhguru reminds us that while physical flexibility and fitness may decrease, our sense of “aliveness” or our enthusiasm, awareness, joy, curiosity, and engagement with life, does not have to decline. The word aliveness goes beyond simply being alive. It tells how deeply we experience life. Someone may be physically fit yet emotionally exhausted and disconnected. On the other hand, many older individuals also inspire others with their optimism, humour, and desire to stay ‘young’ at heart. Their bodies may move slower, but their minds and hearts remain vibrant.

This is important to remember today

Modern lifestyles often leave people mentally drained long before they grow old. Constant stress, digital overload, unhealthy routines, and social isolation can make people lose their excitement for life even in their twenties or thirties. Age is not always the reason people stop feeling alive; sometimes, it is the way they live. The World Health Organization defines healthy ageing not simply as being free from disease, but as maintaining the ability to do what one values and live with dignity, purpose, and well-being. This means emotional stability, meaningful relationships, and a positive outlook are just as important as physical health. Maintaining this sense of aliveness requires conscious effort. Staying physically active through regular exercise or yoga, keeping the mind engaged by learning new skills, nurturing friendships, practising gratitude, spending time in nature, and having a sense of purpose can all help to feel energetic from within.
