After the survival thriller ‘2018’ which was based on the Kerala flood that happened 8 years ago, talented director Jude Anthany Joseph is gearing up for the release of ‘Thudakkam’, which marks the acting debut of Vismaya Mohanlal. The film which has an ‘Om Shanthi Oshana’, ‘Drishyam’ touch, also features Mohanlal in a special cameo appearance and is scheduled to release in theatres on August 7.Ahead of the film’s release, Jude spoke about the journey that led him to ‘Thudakkam’. He revealed that the project was never part of his original filmmaking plans. Instead, he had been working on multiple films in different languages before eventually taking up the project.
‘Thudakkam’ was never part of the plan
Speaking to Galatta Plus, Jude revealed that he had initially planned a completely different slate of films. One of them was based on the disappearance of the MV Kairali ship.He said, “Thudakkam was never a film I had planned to direct. I was actually planning a film based on the disappearance of the MV Kairali ship. At the same time, I was working on a Hindi film with Ayushmann Khurrana, and the script was progressing well. I was also planning a Tamil film with Sivakarthikeyan. I had several projects in development, but none of them reached completion.”

Jude also spoke about how his approach to filmmaking changed after the success of 2018.The ‘2018’ director said, “Later, I realised that this wasn’t how I used to make films. Before 2018, I would write a script, shoot the film, release it, enjoy the outcome, and only then think about what to do next. But after ‘2018’, I started receiving numerous offers and calls.”

‘Thudakkam’ is one of the most anticipated Malayalam releases of the month.
