Rukmini Vasanth slammed for intimate bed scene in Yash's ‘Toxic’, fans say, ‘Wasn't expecting this from you’

Rukmini Vasanth, best known for playing Kanakavathi in Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, most recently featured in the highly anticipated film ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups’. She joined an ensemble cast that includes Yash, Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi and Tara Sutaria.

Rukmini Vasanth’s viral scene sparks criticism

She portrays the character of Mellisa in ‘Toxic’, adding another notable credit to her fast-growing filmography. Yet, despite the buzz around the film and her performance in it, a specific scene involving the 29-year-old actress became the subject of online criticism. In the now-viral clip, her character is seen waking up covered only in a blanket, holding it tightly around herself while looking around in apparent confusion and disorientation.

Rukmini Vasanth’s fans react on social media

The scene drew disappointment from fans on social media, many of whom questioned both the moment itself and the creative choice behind it. One user wrote, “Rukmini, WTF is this?” Another commented, “How am I supposed to process scenes like this? Rukmini, I seriously wasn’t expecting this from you!”. A third user criticised the writing, saying, “What is this? Why such a cheap script?”.

    Rukmini Vasanth yet to respond

So far, neither Rukmini nor the makers of ‘Toxic’ have issued any public response to the backlash surrounding the scene.

About ‘Toxic’ and its A certificate

Helmed by Geetu Mohandas, the film is jointly produced by KVN Productions and Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. It hit theatres on August 26 in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English. The film has drawn attention for its bold intimate scenes, as well as for certain sequences and dialogue that some feel portray women unfavourably. The CBFC granted it an A certificate without demanding any cuts.
