The Mean Girls star’s decision to sell comes as she continues to make her farm in upstate New York her primary home.According to Realtor, Seyfried’s Los Angeles property is a 2,700-square-foot, three-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom house built in 1916. The actress bought the home in 2011 and has used it as her West Coast base for more than a decade. The property is currently listed with Justin Paul Huchel of Carolwood Estates.

Seyfried purchased the Los Angeles house from Adam Brody, her Jennifer’s Body co-star, in 2011 for $1.85 million. If the property sells for its current asking price of $3.2 million, Seyfried would be seeking roughly $1.35 million more than what she paid for the home. The actress has retained the property even after shifting much of her life away from Los Angeles. Its potential sale now signals a possible end to her long-running connection with the city.

Why Amanda Seyfried moved from Los Angeles to a farm

From Hollywood spotlight to rural calm, Amanda Seyfried finds comfort in her beautiful New York farm.

Seyfried’s decision to sell comes several years after she and her husband, actor Thomas Sadoski, made a major lifestyle change. The couple moved their primary residence to a 1930s farmhouse in upstate New York, where they live with their two children and several rescued animals. In a 2025 interview with The Wall Street Journal, Seyfried opened up about her decision to embrace a quieter life away from Los Angeles. She explained that living in a rural setting helped her manage her anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.Seyfried has previously spoken openly about experiencing OCD from a young age. She recalled struggling with routines and fears as a child and said performing and make-believe provided an outlet for her anxiety.“Performing and make-believe eased my anxieties. I was able to step outside of myself,” she said. The actress also recalled how her growing career and the attention that came with it contributed to additional anxiety.

Seyfried’s upstate New York property has become much more than a home for the actress. It is also a sanctuary for rescued animals, including horses, ducks, chickens, peacocks and goats. She previously described caring for the animals as a grounding experience.“I still have anxieties, but tending to the aging animals keeps me from obsessing over things that don’t matter,” she said. “My pony, Cliff, is 38. Every day I have with him is a gift. It’s grounding.”The actress has also spoken about renovating the farmhouse while retaining its rustic character. The property includes a guesthouse created from an adjoining barn.Seyfried has said that farm life has also given her children an opportunity to understand the responsibility that comes with caring for animals.

    Amanda Seyfried’s real estate portfolio

The Los Angeles property is not Seyfried’s only significant real estate investment. The actress previously sold her Manhattan condo for $3.25 million in 2022, after purchasing it for $1.9 million in 2010.Despite selling that Manhattan property, Seyfried and Sadoski continue to own a home in New York City, an apartment on the Upper West Side.Seyfried’s career has taken her from breakout roles in Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! to acclaimed work across film and television. But in recent years, her life away from Hollywood has become an equally important part of her story. With her Los Angeles house now listed for $3.2 million, the actress appears to be further embracing the quieter lifestyle she has built for herself and her family in upstate New York.
