On August 21, a federal judge ruled against it, finding the policy unlawful. The State Department subsequently acknowledged that the January pause was no longer in effect.That did not mean immigrant visa interviews immediately returned to normal.Instead, the State Department introduced a new training programme for consular officers on how to assess whether applicants could financially support themselves in the US. The department then temporarily paused immigrant visa interviews globally while officers were trained under the new system.This is why the current situation is confusing: the original 75-country suspension has been struck down, but a separate operational pause has continued to affect immigrant visa interviews.
