Bruno Mars puts $50 million casino debt rumours to rest: ‘I’m debt free’; singer’s $260 million fortune includes Studio City mansion, Honolulu estate and Las Vegas residency
Bruno Mars has addressed years of speculation about a $60 million casino debt during a Las Vegas show.

Bruno Mars has once again poked fun at the long-running rumours that he owed millions of dollars to a Las Vegas casino. The 40-year-old Grammy winner addressed the speculation during the launch of his The Romantic Tour in Las Vegas on April 10, joking that he had already paid off his alleged casino debt.During his concert at Allegiant Stadium, Mars was joined on stage by his Silk Sonic bandmate Anderson .Paak for a surprise performance. At one point, .Paak made a tongue-in-cheek reference to debt, quipping: “I hate to make this about me, but when I think about how much debt, I mean how many steps it took to get here, I get emotional.”Mars responded with a hearty laugh before joking: “Andy, I’m sorry you’re going through all that. See I’m debt-free, I paid the casino off a long time ago.”The exchange, footage of which was shared on social media, gave Mars another opportunity to address speculation that has followed him for years.

How the $50 million casino debt rumour began

Rumours about Mars’ alleged casino debt gained traction in 2024 following a report claiming that his gambling habits had left him owing around $50 million to MGM.The claims quickly went viral, with reports suggesting that his Las Vegas performances were somehow connected to settling the alleged debt. However, MGM Resorts International, which has a longstanding partnership with the singer, publicly denied that Mars owed the company any money. In a March 2024 statement to the New York Post, MGM praised its relationship with the singer and highlighted his performances at Dolby Live at Park MGM and his Pinky Ring lounge at Bellagio.“MGM and Bruno’s partnership is longstanding and rooted in mutual respect,” the company said, adding that “any speculation otherwise is completely false; he has no debt with MGM.”The statement effectively contradicted the claims that Mars had accumulated a massive casino tab or was performing in Las Vegas to repay it.

Bruno has joked about the rumours before

Mars has previously addressed the speculation with humour rather than a lengthy explanation. After joining Rose on stage last summer to perform their hit collaboration APT., the singer shared footage of the performance on Instagram. His playful caption read: “Almost out of debt BehhhhhBehhhhh!!!”His latest exchange with Anderson .Paak similarly turned the subject into a joke, with Mars making it clear that he considers himself “debt-free.”

His Las Vegas residency reportedly earned millions

Mars’ long-running residency at Park MGM in Las Vegas has been a major source of his earnings. Between 2016 and December 2025, the residency reportedly generated around $185 million ($US124.5 million), with the singer earning approximately $1.58 million per performance. His Las Vegas success has added to a career that has seen him become one of the world’s most commercially successful pop stars, with hits including Just the Way You Are, Uptown Funk and 24K Magic.

Mars’ wealth is also reflected in his real estate holdings. His primary residence is reportedly a $9.7 million ($US6.5 million) Mediterranean-style mansion in Studio City, Los Angeles, which he purchased in 2014 with his then-partner Jessica Caban.Located on two acres in Fryman Canyon, the sprawling 836-square-metre estate features seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, along with an infinity pool, steam saunas, a wine cellar and expansive mountain views. The singer has also made money from previous property deals. In 2012, he purchased a Hollywood Regency-style home on Mulholland Drive for $4.8 million ($US3.25 million) and sold it three years later for around $5 million ($US3.35 million).Mars also bought a $4.6 million ($US3.1 million) Balinese-style property in his hometown of Honolulu, reportedly for his mother, Bernadette, before her death. He later sold the home for approximately $4 million ($US2.7 million) in 2015.

From humble beginnings to global superstardom

Mars’ current financial success is a stark contrast to his childhood in Hawaii. Born Peter Gene Hernandez, he began performing at a very young age as an Elvis Presley impersonator with his family’s band, The Love Notes. He later appeared as the King of Rock and Roll in the 1992 comedy Honeymoon in Vegas. After his parents separated when Mars was 12, however, the family’s financial circumstances became difficult and the family act eventually came to an end. At one point, Mars, his father and his brother reportedly lived in a single-room structure inside an abandoned bird zoo. After graduating from high school, Mars moved to Los Angeles, where he rented an apartment for around $960 a month on Mansfield Avenue. Before becoming a solo star, he established himself as a songwriter, co-writing hits for artists including Flo Rida and CeeLo Green. His breakthrough as a solo artist came in 2010 with Just the Way You Are, which launched a hugely successful career.Today, the singer’s earnings can reportedly reach as much as $150 million ($US100 million) a year during peak touring periods, underscoring the dramatic transformation from his financially difficult childhood to his status as one of pop music’s biggest stars.
