Taylor Swift donates $1 million to heart charity in honour of her father Scott Swift; US projections warn 6 in 10 adults could have cardiovascular disease by 2050s

Taylor Swift’s latest charitable contribution is tied to a health issue that has affected her own family. The singer has donated $1 million to the American Heart Association in 2025 , directing attention towards cardiovascular disease, its treatment and the work needed to prevent it. The gift honours her father, Scott Swift, whose heart condition she discussed earlier this year. The money is intended to support scientific research, prevention programmes and access to care, according to the organisation. Her contribution also comes as health officials warn that cardiovascular disease is likely to affect a growing share of the American population over the coming decades, placing greater demands on healthcare services.

Taylor Swift’s $1 million gift draws on her family’s experience with heart disease

Swift’s contribution recognises her father’s experience with heart disease and supports the American Heart Association’s work across research, public education and medical care. The organisation has not presented the gift as funding for a single project. Instead, it is intended to advance its wider efforts to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, including work on prevention and improving access to life-saving treatment. As reported by American Heart Association, Nancy Brown, the association’s chief executive, said, “Taylor Swift’s remarkable generosity will create lasting change far beyond its financial value.”She also pointed, “Her family’s experience with cardiovascular disease is all too common, affecting nearly half of American adults. Her commitment to supporting her father will make so many others aware of the need to take their own heart health seriously, strengthen prevention efforts, and improve controllable risk factors—ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives.”Swift has previously discussed her family’s experience with cardiovascular disease on the New Heights podcast. Her father’s condition has given the donation a personal connection, although the charity’s work extends well beyond individual cases.

    What the money will support

The American Heart Association funds scientific research and works to improve how cardiovascular conditions are prevented, identified and treated. Swift’s $1 million gift is intended to advance these efforts, alongside initiatives designed to help more people receive appropriate care.Better understanding of cardiovascular disease can inform clinical practice and contribute to improved treatments. Prevention is another focus, particularly because many of the risk factors associated with heart disease can be identified before a serious event occurs. The association also works to make medical guidance and health information more widely available, with programmes intended to reach communities where access to care may be limited. The organisation’s activities include training people in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), publishing medical guidelines, supporting health policy and educating the public about cardiovascular risks. Its work covers more than the treatment of people who have already developed heart disease. It also aims to reduce the likelihood that people will develop serious conditions in the first place.

Why prevention remains a major part of the association’s work

Heart disease and stroke together account for a substantial share of deaths in the United States. The American Heart Association identifies cardiovascular disease as a leading public health challenge, with risk factors ranging from high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol to smoking, physical inactivity and poor nutrition. Some risks are linked to family history, which can make it important for people to understand their relatives’ medical backgrounds. Others can be monitored through routine checks and addressed with medical advice or changes to daily habits. Blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels are among the measures healthcare professionals use to assess cardiovascular risk. The association advises people to discuss their family history and individual risk factors with a doctor rather than waiting for symptoms to appear. Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, avoiding tobacco and managing stress can also form part of a preventive approach.According to the association, nearly 80% of heart disease cases may be preventable through healthy behaviours. That estimate underlines the emphasis it places on early intervention, although prevention does not remove every risk or guarantee that someone will avoid cardiovascular disease.Swift’s donation supports an organisation that combines research and treatment initiatives with this kind of public guidance. Its aim is to reduce the number of people who develop serious cardiovascular conditions and improve outcomes for those who do.

How they support patients and families beyond treatment

The association has also used the wider conversation around Swift’s donation to encourage people to take cardiovascular health seriously within their own families. Brown referred to the singer’s familiar heart-hand gesture, connecting it with the organisation’s efforts to recognise those affected by heart disease, including relatives and partners who support them. For the charity, the message is closely linked to its public health work: personal experiences can prompt conversations about family history, screening and the steps people can take to understand their own risk. The American Heart Association expects cardiovascular disease to become an even greater burden as the country’s population changes and risk factors remain widespread. Its projections indicate that at least six in 10 Americans could have some form of cardiovascular disease within 30 years.
