Watched Raakh? Here are 5 powerful parenting lessons every parent can learn from the series

Some shows entertain us, while others stay with us long after the credits roll. Raakh, the eight-episode Hindi crime thriller that premiered on Prime Video on June 12, 2026, is one such series. Set in 1978 Delhi, the psychological drama follows the investigation into the kidnapping and murder of two teenagers, a story inspired by the infamous Ranga-Billa case that shook the nation and changed the way many Indian families thought about child safety. While Raakh is a gripping crime drama, it also offers important lessons for parents. Beyond the suspense, the series reminds us that parenting is not just about protecting children; it is also about preparing them to navigate the world with awareness and confidence. Here are five parenting lessons every parent can take away from the series.

After the Siya Goyal case, Kangana Ranaut argued that parents shouldn’t automatically be blamed. What’s your take?

One of the biggest messages from Raakh is the importance of talking to children about personal safety. Parents often avoid difficult conversations because they don’t want to scare their kids. However, teaching children simple safety rules, like knowing whom to trust, staying alert in unfamiliar situations, and seeking help when needed, can empower them without making them anxious. The goal is to build awareness, not fear.

    Encourage open communication at home

Children should always feel comfortable telling their parents where they are going, who they are with, and if something makes them uncomfortable. When parents create a home where children know they won’t be judged or scolded for speaking honestly, they are more likely to share important information. Regular conversations, no matter how small, build trust that can make a huge difference in difficult situations.

    Independence should grow with guidance

As children grow older, they naturally want more freedom. Parents may struggle to find the right balance between giving independence and ensuring safety. Raakh serves as a reminder that independence should come with guidance. Teaching children how to make safe decisions, recognise risky situations, and respond confidently is just as important as setting rules for them.

Small safety habits can make a big difference

Following the real-life tragedy that inspired the series, many parents became more cautious. Actor Sonali Bendre has spoken about how the incident led families to adopt simple rules, such as asking children not to talk to strangers and encouraging them to travel with a sibling or friend whenever possible. These everyday habits became part of parenting for an entire generation. Even today, practical safety habits like memorising emergency phone numbers, informing parents about plans, and checking in regularly remain valuable.

Your presence matters more than perfection

Amid the crime and investigation, Raakh also highlights the emotional bond between parents and children. Every child wants to feel heard, supported, and protected. Parents don’t have to be perfect. What matters most is being emotionally available, listening without distraction, and creating an environment where children feel safe sharing both their joys and their worries. These everyday moments strengthen trust and build resilience.

Although Raakh is a crime thriller, its impact goes beyond mystery and suspense. It revisits a tragedy that changed how many Indian parents viewed child safety and sparked conversations that continue even today. The series reminds us that parenting is about more than keeping children safe from danger. It is about raising aware, confident, and emotionally secure individuals who know they can always turn to their parents for support. In a world that continues to change, those lessons remain just as relevant as they were decades ago.
