Saif Ali Khan spent Independence Day reflecting on the role of India’s armed forces and the growing concerns his children have about conflicts around the world. The actor spoke about conversations at home with his sons, Taimur and Jeh, who have started asking questions about war, safety and what could happen if global tensions escalate.Saif revealed that news of conflicts in different parts of the world has left his children both curious and worried. Their questions, he said, often centre on who would protect them if circumstances were to worsen.“My children ask me about the many wars that are going on in the world right now. They feel scared too. They ask, ‘Who is looking after us? What will happen next? Will the situation get worse?'” Saif said in an interview with NDTV’s Jai Jawan.The actor told them that they can rely on the country’s armed forces for their safety. Addressing the soldiers, he added, “I tell them, ‘The Army is protecting us.’ They are also saluting you. We are all very proud,”.Saif also used the interaction to speak about Kashmir, which he described as one of India’s most beautiful regions. While acknowledging the area’s sensitive nature, he expressed hope that people from across the country would one day be able to travel there with greater ease.“It is one of the most beautiful areas of our country and is a bit sensitive. It’s not open to full tourism. It’s a little sad in a way. I wish the people of the entire country could come to the area a bit more freely and comfortably,” he said.The region has a special connection to Saif’s family as well. His mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore, has a long cinematic association with Kashmir, having filmed several songs there. Recalling her connection with the valley, Saif said, “My mother shot her first film, Kashmir Ki Kali. She has shot so many songs here in Kashmir,” he said.Meanwhile, Saif is preparing for his next major release, ‘Haiwaan’, a thriller helmed by Priyadarshan. The film marks his reunion with Akshay Kumar on screen after an 18-year gap.The cast also includes Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher and Shriya Pilgaonkar. ‘Haiwaan’ is currently slated for a theatrical release on September 11.
